Book Review: The Rae Wilder Novels by Penelope Fletcher

Book 1: Demon Girl
Book 2: Demon Day
Book 3: Demon Dark (not yet read but on my Amazon wishlist)
Book 4: Demon Boy (not yet released - Summer 2012)

Rae Wilder is a dystopian fantasy with heavy elements of romance, and the lead characters are called Rae and Breandan. This series is proving more popular than anticipated, and is beloved by a few hardcore fans.
Overall series rating (so far):

I am really enjoying this paranormal teen series and look forward to reading the remaining titles.  The books are well paced with engaging characters and the writing creates the scene well. I read the first two books back in May/June 2011 (it's now December and I've read over 100 books  since) so I cannot remember everything in great detail but I do know that I want to read more. I would happily recommend this series to a friend.

Rae Wilder Novels: Book One.
Rae Wilder has problems. Supernatural creatures swarm the earth, and humanity is on the brink of extinction. Stalked by a handsome fairy who claims she is like him, demonkind, Rae thinks maybe it was a mistake breaking the rules by going over the Wall into demon territory. Plunged into a world of dark magics, fierce creatures, and ritual sacrifice, she is charged with a guarding a magical amulet. The changes to her mind and body are startling, but rather than accept her purpose she struggles against who she is destined to be. Throw in a big lust for a vampire who can't keep his hands off her, and life starts to get complicated. Rae is forced to make the ultimate choice: to live and die human, or embrace her birth-right and wield magics that could turn her into something wicked, a force of nature nothing can control.
I read this using the Kindle app on my phone, pre-Kindle days, when I was away in Spain with my family.  I had downloaded it as a freebie and was thoroughly delighted with it so recommended to my friends in my reading circle as soon as we got off holiday.  I then bought the second book as soon as the next pay packet came in.

Rae Wilder Novels: Book Two.
Rae is falling into darkness. Grieving the death of her friend at the hand of dark magics, she is full of hate and vengeance. Tracking Devlin and his followers across demon territory, she is forced to turn to the local shifter pack for help. Tricked into rescuing the Pack Alpha’s daughters from the Temple, she learns there really is no place more dangerous than home. Breandan the fairy is done being patient. He wants Rae to stand by his side and refuses any claim they are not destined to be. Unsure, Rae denies him the right to have her, but will the urges of her nature and the strength of their bond allow her to walk away? Then there is Tomas, the alluring vampire who needs her help. But what exactly does he expect of her, and is the cost of helping him worth turning her back on life itself? Courted by the dark, and in love with the light, Rae must choose her path, or face the burden of Rupturing the world once more.
Another good read, taking the story further and expanding the scene and the characters.  Unlike the first in the series, I had to part with some dosh to buy this one but I wasn't disappointed.
Rae Wilder Novels: Book Three.
Rae’s fragile emotions are becoming unhinged. Lochlann demands she keeps the bond with his brother secret, and the duties of High Priestess threaten to crush her rebellious nature, diminishing her glow. Breandan is her warrior, her light in the dark, but even he cannot hope to protect Rae from her own blood, and the extremes his need to possess her push him to. At odds with his kin, struggling with his own purpose, he fights for his claim on Rae to be honored. Rae must break the irons of doom and embrace her fate. She must become the Priestess demonkind cry out for, and wield magics that are hers by birthright. Or watch from the arms of her love as her Wyld perishes in flames.
Loved it, even though it did turn me into a sobbing wreck.
Action packed and fast paced, I eagerly await the next instalment...
