The Popping the Cherry tour bus is now visiting... Michelle Smart

It's time to get your groove on...

When Michelle Smart asked me to come up with some 'top tunes' for those cherry-popping moments I actually laughed out loud. Once I'd finished giggling, I turned to spotify and the playlist just kept on growing. You can check it out at: http://michellesmartblog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/popping-those-cherries.html

As part of my blog tour, you can enter the giveaway - both giveaways if you're in the UK! - via each days tour stop and also via the Blog Tour page on my website.

The Popping the Cherry tour bus is visiting... Samantha Darling

Calling fellow writers, do you specialise in one genre or do you like to mix it up?

Phew, here we are into the second week since Popping the Cherry was released, and I am relieved not to have quite so much dashing around to do now that I am down to one tour stop per day.

So, today I am visiting Samantha Darling to talk about writing different genres, and discussing whether genre jumping is a good thing, or whether it could potentially be damaging. Come and join the discussion here: http://samathaveerasamy.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/aurelia-b-rowl-talks-genre-jumping-and.html

Twenty Questions with... Jennah Scott

I am taking a short 'time-out' from my Countdown Teaser tour today to welcome Jennah Scott, author of The Beginning (Kaarina’s Secret Book 1) for a round of twenty questions.

ACT ONE – all about you…

Born and raised in Texas, Jennah is a transplant to Missouri long enough ago she should probably consider that her hometown. But she will forever be a Texan. She loves to write any story that will make a reader smile, laugh, and maybe even cry (although you won’t ever hear her admit that she cries). Whether the next story she writes is contemporary, urban fantasy, LGBT, or whatever other crazy idea she comes up with, there will always be love and romance in the midst of trials and turmoil.

When she’s not writing you can find her on Twitter, with her family, or buried in a book trying to escape reality for just a minute.

1) Have you always been a writer or is it something you fell into?

Always been a writer. Love writing as a kid, took a break during school when I had more assignments to write than free time to enjoy the process.

2) Do you have a particular writing style or ritual?

Not really. I write when I can. I try to get in 1k a day during the week since I’m at home by myself without a lot of distractions.

3) Is there a book or an author that has influenced you in your writing?

There are authors (more than I can list here) who have inspired me. Some have helped me out of funks and others have shown me through there writing that I can do whatever I put my mind to.

4) Is there one piece of writing (or life?) advice that has stuck with you, or that you would like to share?

Have patience and take your time. It is the hardest thing to do as a writer, but it’s the best way to be successful. No matter what route you take when it comes to publishing, there is plenty of waiting time. So yeah, be patient.

5) Can you tell us three things about yourself that we probably don’t already know?

I’m not a big NFL fan, I’d much rather watch college football. I love hockey! If I could go back in time I’d want to go back to the time of OK Corral and cattle drives.

6) What five luxury items or gadgets would you hate to be without?

My phone and e-reader are about it.

ACT TWO – all about your new release…

When offered a position within the esteemed law firm of Virtanen and Associates, Kaarina Davidson couldn't say no. Known for their exclusivity and revered for their ruthlessness, they are the best firm in Dallas. This was the job offer of a lifetime. Or so Kaarina thought.
Too soon she learns that the lawyers of Virtanen and Associates are more than meets the eye. They are Vampyyri, a supernatural sect who feed off the emotions of humans. Warned not to touch anyone, Kaarina is just trying to make a name for herself until she learns that the principle partner of the firm has a mission that doesn't include finding justice for the clients of the firm. He intends to take control of the Vampyyri and disregard all rules that prevent humans from becoming walking zombies.
Kaarina's about to learn she may be the only one who can stop the takeover. Will she take the easy way out and run? Or will Kaarina accept the challenge and become more than the lawyer she set out to be?
This is book 1 in a 4 part series.

7) Congratulations on your recent release of The Beginning (Kaarina’s Secret Book 1), what was your inspiration for writing Kaarina’s story?

I wanted to write a paranormal book that was different. So my husband and I started brainstorming and this is what I came up with!

8) Did the story flow from your finger tips or did some scenes take a bit of cajoling?

It took a bit of cajoling. There was a lot of research and knowing that it was a new world I had to really work to get it right. This is my first book that isn’t a contemporary, so it was different.

9) How long did it take for the initial spark of the story to make it onto the page and then onto the publisher’s desk?

About a year from start to finish, with three months of that spent on researching. When I started this book I promised myself it would be for fun, I wouldn’t push to get it done quickly.

10) Do you have a favourite paragraph or sentence from your story that you would like to tantalise us with?

This is one my favourite paragraphs because I can just see Kaarina smirking at Anton since he’s trying to be all “I’m better than you” and the boss, Mr. Virtanen, puts him in his place very quickly.
“Mr. Berg.” Mr. Virtanen's voice sounded to my left. He had a soft, yet commanding voice. One that didn't encourage argument, one that said, without a doubt, if you crossed him he'd make you pay. “Since you are no more than a mentor to Ms. Davidson, might I recommend you show her a little courtesy and respect? It would behoove you if you sir would like to keep your job.”

11) Over to you, what can you tell us about The Beginning, to make us rush out and buy it?

If you’re looking for a contemporary story with a twist then I think this is a great story. It’s being published as a serial novel, and The Beginning is the first of 4 episodes. You won’t find blood-sucking vampires, but you will find a group of supernaturals who rely on human emotions to live. Consider the Vampyyri a combination of vampires and succubi/incubi.

12) What can we expect from you next? Is there something you are working on right now?

I’m working on The Discovery (Kaarina’s Secret Book 2) right now. There are also a few contemporaries on my plate as well. This series will finish up by the middle of October!

QUICK FIRE ROUND – it’s pop quiz time…

13) Plotter or pantser?

Plantser. Can’t plot like some people, but need a little guidance.

14) Secret Seven or Famous Five? (please tell me you know them!?)

Ummm I had to Google them. So I know about them now. And I still don’t have an answer. Sorry L

15) Digital books or print books?

Both! Love to switch it up.

16) Tea or coffee?

COFFEE in the morning Tea at night.

17) Cats or dogs?

Cats please

18) Extrovert or introvert?

Introvert

19) Save or spend?

Save so I can later spend.

20) Facebook or Twitter?

Twitter

And that’s a wrap!

Thank you so much for taking part, Jennah, I wish you every success with your new release.

Excerpt…

Brushed silver letters spelling out Virtanen and Associates, P.C. jumped out from the wall. It'd only been a week since I walked through the revolving glass front door for my interview, but things already felt different. Then my hands were slippery with sweat and my knees knocked together so hard the sounds echoed through the room. But not now, now I stood with my shoulders squared and my chin high. Despite the worry from my parents I was going to make this job work. I refused to let the opportunity pass me by.

“Kaarina. If you plan on keeping this job I recommend you follow me upstairs. I'll show you your office then we can get started reviewing cases.” Anton's deep rumble rolled over my shoulder. I wasn't sure if it was anger or lust causing the shivers wracking my body. Who knew such a cold man could cause someone to actually react with interest?

“Mr.

With that Mr. Virtanen marched off to the left toward a set of solid black elevators. I turned to follow only to be stopped by Anton gripping my elbow. That touch sent electric pulses ricocheting through my body. He jerked his hand away. I didn't miss him shaking as if to rid it of an unwanted substance.

“Those are not for your use. Ever.”

“Who can then?” I hadn't meant to ask, but it was too tempting to goad Anton. I wanted to chip some of the ice off, not only his shoulder, but from his voice. When Mr. Virtanen spoke it was clear Anton held him in high regard. For a brief moment the color in his eyes softened and his shoulders dropped in respect. Seeing that gave me hope. Sometimes poking the bear was the best way to get a reaction out of someone. And it was fun.
