Book Review: The Nurse's Not-So-Secret Scandal by Wendy S. Marcus

Score: 4.5 out of 5

"The shocking secrets of nurse Roxie Morano!

Between family nightmares and a series of lousy men, nurse Roxie Morano's life is a disaster zone. But enigmatic (and
gorgeous!) new colleague Ryan 'Fig' Figelstein is ignoring her hazard warnings - instead, he's signalling his attraction! Now Roxie's bulletproof heart is at risk for the very first time...but dare she dream Fig will stick around when he discovers all her secrets?"

I was lucky enough to receive a pre-release copy of this title and WOW!

Not at all what I was expecting from a Harlequin/Mills & Boon Medical title but I could not put this book down; I read the entire thing in one sitting, staying up until the early hours just to finish it.

Although this is the third in a series, this book stands alone incredibly well, telling the story of some characters that we were briefly introduced to in the earlier titles. Both the hero and heroine are deeply flawed, almost broken, in fact, but you can’t help empathising with them, admiring their strength and courage. You want them to succeed, get over their issues but that’s an awful lot to ask of them!

I have now read books two and three in the Madrin Memorial series by Wendy S. Marcus and will definitely make a point of obtaining book one to complete my set. I will also have no hesitation in picking up future titles by this author, a natural storyteller, capable of building up conflict and drama a-plenty with flair and a dash of humour.

This is fast paced story, gritty and quite dark in parts, yet beautifully written with seamless switching between the characters point of view. There isn’t a huge amount of ‘medical’ in this plot, but, to be honest, it doesn’t need it. What it lacks on the medical side of things is easily filled by physical chemistry and sizzle.

The Nurse's Not-So-Secret Scandal is quite possibly the raunchiest title from the medical range that I have come across to date - but it works - pushing the boundaries and showing a steamier side to the Medical line. It would be nice to think that this is a bold new direction for the range, offering a variety of heat levels in much the same way that the M&B RIVA line can swing between ‘sweet sensual romance’ to ‘spicy and spirited’.

I would have no qualms whatsoever about recommending this book to a friend, although perhaps not to my elder family members who, I suspect, would flounder with the level of heat. If you are looking for a ‘traditional’, softer, book that is more of the norm for the Medical books I have read, then be prepared for this book to test you, but it is well worth giving it a chance.

Personally, I loved it!

    1. Thanks Wendy... although I still haven't caught up on my sleep, no such thing as a lie-in in my house with a 5 and 3 year old around with ballet and swimming etc before 9am on a weekend o_O

If book 1 is half as good as books 2 and 3 then I'll be happy!
